What it is

Hareruya Nipponbashi is the Osaka branch of Hareruya, Japan's largest Magic: The Gathering retail chain (its Tokyo flagship is Hareruya Akihabara). It opened on the edge of Nipponbashi/Den Den Town — Osaka's otaku and hobby district — about a one-minute walk from Nankai Namba Station's exit.

Like the Tokyo store, it sells MTG booster packs, singles and supplies and buys cards, and it's built around organized play: a free play space the shop lists at 50 seats hosts events most days, from casual weeknight games to weekend tournaments. The chain runs an English-language shop page and event listings, so it's workable for a visiting player who doesn't read Japanese, though play itself happens in Japanese.

If you're doing a Den Den Town crawl, it sits close to hobby shops like Yellow Submarine Namba and the district's other stores covered in our Den Den Town Osaka guide — for Pokémon instead of Magic, the Hareruya group's card-game sister store Hareruya2 Namba is a short walk away near Namba Sennichimae.
