The Slam Dunk Railway Crossing at Kamakurakokomae (Kamakura)

The seaside Enoden crossing from the Slam Dunk anime opening, with the ocean and Enoshima beyond — hugely popular, very crowded, and on a live public railway crossing.

The scene

The railway crossing directly in front of Kamakurakokomae Station is the model for the famous opening of the Slam Dunk TV anime, where Hanamichi Sakuragi waits at the Enoden tracks with the sea behind him. The shot of an Enoden train passing the crossing with the ocean and Enoshima island in the background has become a symbol of youth and nostalgia for fans worldwide.

The spot is on the Enoshima Electric Railway (Enoden) between Kamakura and Fujisawa. From Kamakura Station, take the Enoden about 18 minutes to Kamakurakokomae Station; the crossing is a 1–2 minute walk straight out from the gates. Early morning or sunset offer better light and smaller crowds.

Please be respectful

This is an active level crossing on a public road in a residential and school area, and overcrowding has been a real problem here. Do not stand on the tracks, never cross against the barriers, don't block traffic or pedestrians, and follow the on-site guides and posted photo rules. More spots: the anime pilgrimage guide.
