What it is

Akihabara Radio Kaikan is one of the district's most recognizable landmarks, standing directly in front of the Electric Town Exit of JR Akihabara Station. Once a postwar hub for radio parts, it is now a vertical mall of otaku and hobby specialty shops across roughly ten above-ground floors.

Tenants sell figures and model kits (including an AmiAmi store on 4F), trading cards and TCGs (BIG MAGIC on 9F), dolls, books and anime merchandise; long-running retailer Yellow Submarine anchors the 6th floor and the top floor hosts an event space. Because it packs many distinct shops into one tower steps from the station, you can browse figures, cards and collectibles without going back outside. Hours, payment and tax-free service vary by tenant, so check each shop.
