What it is
Wonder Festival ("WonFes") is the world's largest one-day event for garage kits and original sculpted figures, held twice a year at Makuhari Messe in Chiba. Thousands of amateur and professional "dealers" sell hand-cast resin kits, while major manufacturers (Good Smile Company, Kaiyodo and others) unveil prototype figures. The 2026 Summer edition runs Sunday, July 26, 2026, 10:00–17:00, across Halls 1–8.
For a foreign visitor, WonFes is a sculptor's paradise: garage kits sold here are covered by a one-day copyright license, so most are not available anywhere else. Expect dense crowds, cash-heavy transactions at dealer tables, and a strong photography culture — popular kits sell out fast, so plan a route and arrive early.
Ticketing
Tickets are sold through Lawson Ticket (L-Tike) and Loppi terminals in Lawson/Ministop stores. Advance general admission is ¥3,500; same-day is ¥4,000. Discounted advance tickets include U22 ¥2,200 and an afternoon ticket (entry from 13:00) ¥2,300. The official site has a "For overseas customer" section linking to L-Tike's inbound ticket page.
Preguntas frecuentes
- When and where is Wonder Festival 2026 [Summer]?
- Sunday, July 26, 2026, 10:00–17:00 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba. It fills International Exhibition Halls 1–8, about 30 minutes by train east of Tokyo Station, and is organized by Kaiyodo.
- Do I need a ticket, and how can an overseas visitor buy one?
- Yes — you need a paid ticket bought in advance through Lawson Ticket (l-tike.com or a Loppi kiosk inside a Lawson/Ministop store, L-code 38660), and overseas visitors can use Lawson Ticket's 'For overseas customer' page. A full-day advance ticket is ¥3,500 (¥4,000 on the day), with an under-22 ticket at ¥2,200 and an afternoon ticket (entry from 1 pm) at ¥2,300, plus a system fee that varies by payment and pickup method (prices as of July 2026).
- How do I get to Makuhari Messe?
- Take the JR Keiyō Line to Kaihin-Makuhari Station, then walk about 5 minutes to the halls. The Keiyō Line runs direct from Tokyo Station in roughly 30 minutes; follow the crowds of figure fans from the station exit.
- Is there English support, and what should I know before going?
- Expect little English signage and mostly cash-only dealer tables, so bring plenty of yen. Note the one-day copyright system: garage kits are licensed only for that day's event, so amateur dealer stock is limited and popular items can sell out fast — arrive early.
