What it is
animate Akihabara is one of the flagship locations of animate, Japan's largest retailer for anime and manga merchandise, about a four-minute walk from the Electric Town Exit. Following a renewal, Building 2 opened in December 2022 and a relocated Building 1 (basement to 7F) opened in April 2023, with a separate ANNEX nearby that houses an animate Café Gratte+.
Stock includes official character goods, manga and light novels, music CDs, Blu-ray/DVD, games and frequently rotating collaboration "only shop" pop-ups. Tax-free shopping is available for eligible visitors.
