Detective Conan's real-world town is Hokuei in Tottori, Gosho Aoyama's hometown: the 1.4 km Conan Street, lined with bronze statues, runs from JR Yura ("Conan Station") to the Gosho Aoyama Manga Factory museum. The current museum building closes for good on 11 January 2027, before a new museum opens in spring 2027.

The facts that decide a visit: the museum is open 9:30–17:30 (last entry 17:00) and charges ¥700 for adults, ¥100 off when you show your passport (as of 2026-10-03). JR Yura is 10 minutes by train from Kurayoshi, and the museum is 20 minutes on foot or 5 minutes by taxi from the station. Everything below was checked on 2026-10-03 against the museum's official site, Tottori Prefecture and the airport operator.

Why Hokuei is "the town where you can meet Conan"

The museum's own profile of Gosho Aoyama gives his birthday as 21 June and his hometown as Yurashuku in Hokuei — the same district as the museum's address. The Gosho Aoyama Manga Factory (Aoyama Gosho Furusato-kan) opened in 2007. From the station to the museum, the town has turned the walk into Conan Street, and the prefecture's own walking-course report follows it from "Conan Station" through the old post-town of Yura-juku, along the Yura River, past the museum and back over Conan Bridge.

The museum — and its last months in this building

On 30 September 2026 the museum announced that, because it is moving into a new building, the current building's last day of opening is 11 January 2027 (a national holiday). Its goods shop, Conan Tanteisha (Furusato-kan branch), stays open from 14 January to 28 February 2027. Hokuei Town says the new museum — English name AOYAMA GOSHO MANGA MUSEUM, with an exterior designed like manga panels — opens in spring 2027; the pages we checked give no exact date or address. The museum has also announced a farewell event inviting visitors to look back on their memories (details in its flyer).

Getting there

  • From Osaka: the Super Hakuto limited express to Kurayoshi takes about 3 hours 10 minutes, or a Nihon Kotsu highway bus about 3 hours 35 minutes; then 10 minutes by JR to Yura.

All times are the museum's own figures.

Be a good visitor

  • Conan Street is an ordinary town street through a former post town: keep to the pavement, do not block the road or driveways for photos, and keep your voice down near homes.
  • Park in the free car park, not on the street; coach and car parks are separate.
  • The statues and monuments are public art, not climbing frames.

Photo tips

  • Inside the museum, photos and video are allowed except in marked areas.
  • Good shots: the station sign, the six statues on Conan Bridge and the comic-cover stones; scan a stone with the official app for a character photo.
  • In 2026 this museum building is itself a farewell photo: its last day is 11 January 2027.

FAQ

Is the Gosho Aoyama Manga Factory closing?
The current building is. The museum announced on 30 September 2026 that, because it is moving into a new building, its last day in the present building is 11 January 2027; its Conan Tanteisha goods shop stays open from 14 January to 28 February 2027. Hokuei Town plans the relocated museum, AOYAMA GOSHO MANGA MUSEUM, for spring 2027 (no exact date published as of 2026-10-03).
How much is the Detective Conan museum and when is it open?
Same-day tickets cost ¥700 for adults, ¥500 for junior-high and high-school students, ¥300 for elementary pupils and nothing for younger children; showing a passport, residence card or JR-WEST RAIL PASS takes ¥100 off. It opens 9:30–17:30 (last entry 17:00); the remaining 2026 closed days are 30 October and 30 November, with later dates to be announced (official site, checked 2026-10-03).
How do I get to Detective Conan's town from Osaka?
Take the Super Hakuto limited express to Kurayoshi (about 3 hours 10 minutes) or a Nihon Kotsu highway bus (about 3 hours 35 minutes), then the JR line 10 minutes to Yura, nicknamed Conan Station. The museum is about 20 minutes on foot or 5 minutes by taxi from the station (the museum's own figures, checked 2026-10-03).
How long is Conan Street and what is on it?
Conan Street is the 1.4 km route the town has named between JR Yura (Conan Station) and the museum. Do I need to book tickets for the Gosho Aoyama Manga Factory?
The museum asks you to: its website tells visitors to buy tickets before coming. Same-day tickets are still sold at the museum, and advance tickets (sold online all year) guarantee entry but not faster entry. Entry was restricted on 8–16 August and 19–23 September 2026; in September you needed an advance ticket or a same-day numbered entry ticket, and none were handed out once advance tickets sold out. The museum says it may also hand out numbered tickets without notice when crowded (official site, checked 2026-10-03).
Can I take photos inside the Detective Conan museum?
Yes. The museum allows photos and video in its exhibition space except in areas marked as no-photography (official visitor information, checked 2026-10-03).
