The K-On! School — Former Toyosato Elementary (Shiga)
The 1937 Vories-designed school that modelled 'Sakuragaoka High' in K-On! Free to enter, with rooms recreated to match the anime.
The scene
The former main building of Toyosato Elementary School is the real-life model for 'Sakuragaoka High School,' where the Houkago Tea Time girls of K-On! practise and hang out. After fans identified the building, it became one of the best-loved music-anime pilgrimage sites; the town and volunteers even fitted out the music/club room to match the series.
The Vories-designed reinforced-concrete building (completed 1937) no longer functions as a school and is open to the public for free. Visitors can walk the corridors, stairs and classrooms that appear in the anime. The nearest station is Toyosato on the Ohmi Railway (Ohmi Tetsudo) line, a short walk away. From Osaka or Kyoto, take JR to Hikone, transfer to the Ohmi Railway to Toyosato — roughly 1.5–2 hours from Osaka.
Please be respectful
The building is a working community and cultural facility, sometimes used for local events. Respect opening hours and staff, stay out of any closed-off areas, and keep noise reasonable so other visitors and locals can enjoy it too. More spots: the anime pilgrimage guide.
