Anime Films in Japan with English Subtitles (October 2026)
As of 3 October 2026, the one anime film we can confirm with English-subtitled screenings in Japan is SEKIRO: NO DEFEAT at Fushimi Million-za (Aichi), whose film page says every showing has English subtitles. We found no English-subtitled anime showtime in Tokyo that day. Here is the cinema-by-cinema status, the other anime now showing, and how to check a showtime yourself.

The short answer
As of 3 October 2026, the only anime film we can confirm with English-subtitled screenings in a Japanese cinema is SEKIRO: NO DEFEAT at Fushimi Million-za in Aichi, whose own film page says all showings are screened with English subtitles; in Tokyo, we found no English-subtitled SEKIRO showtime when we checked on 3 October.
Fushimi Million-za's film page lists it as 上映中 (now showing) from 2 October 2026, and on 3 October its ticket page labelled each SEKIRO showtime as screened with English subtitles: one a day, 18:05–19:59 on 3, 5, 6 and 8 October and 16:05–17:59 on 4 October (none listed on 7 October). Eight other cinemas still carry an English-subtitle remark on the film's schedule page, but none of them listed a showtime for 3 October — so do not travel for them without checking the cinema's own site.
| Film | SEKIRO: NO DEFEAT |
| Opened in Japan | Friday 4 September 2026 |
| English subtitles confirmed at | Fushimi Million-za (伏見ミリオン座), Aichi — "All showings are screened with English subtitles" on the cinema's film page; each showtime is labelled 英語字幕付き日本語音声の上映 on its ticket page |
| Showtimes listed on 3 October | 18:05–19:59 on 3, 5, 6 and 8 October; 16:05–17:59 on 4 October; none on 7 October (ticket page; the 3 October showing is also on the schedule page) |
| Runtime / rating | 107 minutes, PG12 (the cinema's film page and ticket page) |
| Tokyo | No SEKIRO showtime listed on 3 October at 109 Cinemas Premium Shinjuku, Shinjuku Wald 9 or Grand Cinema Sunshine Ikebukuro |
| End date | None published on the official site or the cinema's pages |
| Checked | 3 October 2026 |
The ten cinemas announced for English subtitles in September — status on 3 October
On 2 September 2026 the official account announced 英語字幕版 (Japanese audio, English subtitles) showtimes at ten cinemas (@sekiro_nd_anime; the 5 September post confirmed the format). The schedule page linked from the official site still prints the remark 英語字幕版上映あり ※劇場HPにてご確認下さい ("English-subtitled screenings — check the cinema's website") beside nine of them. That remark is a fixed note, not a showtime. This is what the page and the cinemas' own sites showed on 3 October 2026:
| Area | Cinema | 3 October 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Aichi | Fushimi Million-za (伏見ミリオン座) | Now showing (from 2 October, per the cinema's film page, which says all showings have English subtitles). Showtime 18:05 (ends 19:59). |
| Aichi | Midland Cinema Nagoya Airport (ミッドランドシネマ名古屋空港) | Remark kept, no showtime listed. The cinema's SEKIRO page, which showed the 英語字幕版 as now showing on 18 September, now redirects to a "not found" page. |
| Tokyo | 109 Cinemas Premium Shinjuku (109シネマズプレミアム新宿) | Remark kept, no showtime listed. SEKIRO is not on the cinema's own 3 October timetable. |
| Tokyo | Shinjuku Wald 9 (新宿バルト9) | Remark kept, no showtime listed. SEKIRO is not in the cinema's own film listings. |
| Tokyo | Grand Cinema Sunshine Ikebukuro (グランドシネマサンシャイン池袋) | Remark kept, no showtime listed |
| Chiba | Aeon Cinema Makuhari Shintoshin (イオンシネマ幕張新都心) | Remark kept, no showtime listed |
| Chiba | Keisei Rosa 10 (京成ローザ10) | No remark, no showtime listed |
| Osaka | T-Joy Umeda (T・ジョイ梅田) | Remark kept, no showtime listed. SEKIRO is not in the cinema's own film listings. |
| Yamagata | Yamagata Solaris (山形ソラリス) | Remark kept, no showtime listed |
| Okinawa | Mihama 7plex (ミハマセブンプレックス) | Remark kept, no showtime listed |
"No showtime listed" means the schedule page printed 掲載できる上映スケジュールが存在しません (no schedule to show — check the cinema's site). It does not prove the run has ended, but we could not find a showtime.
SEKIRO is also spreading to more cinemas: the official site announced on 24 September 2026 that the run would be extended at some cinemas and added at more from 2 October, and the same schedule page lists cinemas joining from 2 October (for example Forum Morioka, Aeon Cinema Kohoku New Town and 109 Cinemas Yokkaichi) and more on 9, 16, 23 and 30 October, including ufotable CINEMA in Tokushima from 30 October. None of the added cinemas carries the English-subtitle remark, so treat those as showings without English subtitles unless the cinema says otherwise.
Other anime showing in Tokyo on 3 October (no English subtitles)
Shinjuku Wald 9's own film listings had 3 October 2026 showtimes for these anime titles, among others. None is tagged with English subtitles (the 【字幕】 tags on that page belong to foreign live-action films, which carry Japanese subtitles), so expect Japanese audio with no subtitles:
- 劇場版 魔法少女まどか☆マギカ〈ワルプルギスの廻天〉 (Madoka Magica: Walpurgis no Kaiten) — also in Dolby Cinema
- 新劇場版 銀魂 -吉原大炎上- <超炎上版> (Gintama) — PG12
- 映画ちいかわ 人魚の島のひみつ (Chiikawa)
- 超かぐや姫! (Chō Kaguya-hime!) — Dolby Atmos
- 最終楽章 響け!ユーフォニアム 後編 (Sound! Euphonium) — Dolby Cinema
- メイドインアビス 烈日の黄金郷【後編】 (Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun, episodes 7–12 on the big screen)
- 劇場版 RE:cycle of the PENGUINDRUM[後編] (Penguindrum)
The listing gives no end dates, so check the cinema schedule for the day you want.
Opening later in October
- Attack on Titan Part 1: Crimson Bow and Arrow (劇場版「進撃の巨人」前編〜紅蓮の弓矢〜) — Aeon Cinema's film page gives a 23 October 2026 release for this theatrical re-edit of the TV series' episodes 1–13, 119 minutes, distributed by Pony Canyon, with 4DX showings at Aeon Cinema Theatas Chofu (4DX costs an extra fee on top of the normal ticket). The page does not mention English subtitles.
- SEKIRO: NO DEFEAT keeps adding cinemas on 9, 16, 23 and 30 October (see above).
How to check a showtime and buy a ticket
- Open the film's schedule page and pick the date tab, or go straight to the cinema's own site.
- On the cinema's booking page, look for 英語字幕版 or English subtitles next to the showtime — not every showtime of a subtitled release carries it. At Fushimi Million-za, the film page says every showing is subtitled, and the cinema's ticket page, where you buy, labels each SEKIRO showtime as English-subtitled.
- If the schedule page shows 掲載できる上映スケジュールが存在しません for your cinema, no showtime is published there for that day.
Know before you go
- Late shows and age: the schedule page notes that under-18s are not admitted to showings that end after 23:00.
- Do not rely on the remark alone: 英語字幕版上映あり on the schedule page is a fixed note. Only a showtime on the cinema's own page is a screening.
- No end date: limited runs can finish without notice. Check on the day.
Which cinemas add English subtitles (it depends on the distributor)
There is no single fixed list. Toho's own releases have used TOHO Cinemas Hibiya, TOHO Cinemas Shinjuku, TOHO Cinemas Roppongi Hills, 109 Cinemas Premium Shinjuku, Midland Square Cinema (Nagoya) and TOHO Cinemas Umeda (Osaka) — that lineup carried the English-subtitle runs of Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc (from October 2025) and the 4K remaster of Princess Mononoke (from November 2025). SEKIRO: NO DEFEAT uses a different set, with no TOHO Cinemas at all. So check the specific film's announcement rather than assuming a chain.
New releases: when to look for subtitles
Most theatrical anime in Japan is Japanese-audio-only with no subtitles, and when English subtitles are added it is often weeks after the Japanese premiere (SEKIRO: NO DEFEAT, whose subtitled showings were announced two days before it opened, was an exception). If you are chasing a title that has just opened, check its official site and X account 2–4 weeks after release rather than on opening weekend.
Runs that have ended (don't chase these)
- Detective Conan: Fallen Angel of the Highway — its English-subtitle showtimes began on 5 June 2026 and we could confirm them up to a 7 July 2026 check. As of 18 September 2026 we could no longer confirm any English-subtitle showtime for it, so do not plan around it.
- Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc — English-subtitle run from 24 October 2025; no longer showing.
- Princess Mononoke (4K remaster) — English-subtitle run from 7 November 2025, confirmed ended by mid-April 2026.

FAQ
- What anime films have English subtitles in Japan right now (October 2026)?
- As of 3 October 2026, the one we can confirm is SEKIRO: NO DEFEAT at Fushimi Million-za in Aichi: the cinema's film page says all showings are screened with English subtitles, and on 3 October its ticket page listed one English-subtitled showing a day on 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8 October (18:05, or 16:05 on 4 October). Eight other cinemas still carry a fixed 英語字幕版上映あり remark on the film's schedule page but listed no showtime that day, so check the cinema's own site before going. We found no published end date.
- Are there anime movies with English subtitles in Tokyo this month?
- We could not find one on 3 October 2026. The three Tokyo cinemas announced in September for SEKIRO: NO DEFEAT's English-subtitled showings — 109 Cinemas Premium Shinjuku, Shinjuku Wald 9 and Grand Cinema Sunshine Ikebukuro — listed no SEKIRO showtime on the film's schedule page that day, and neither 109 Cinemas Premium Shinjuku's nor Shinjuku Wald 9's own 3 October schedule includes the film. The anime titles in Wald 9's listings (Madoka Magica: Walpurgis no Kaiten, Gintama, Chiikawa and others) carry no English-subtitle tag.
- How do I book an English-subtitled anime screening in Japan?
- Find the cinema on the film's schedule page, then open that cinema's own booking page and buy a specific showtime tagged 英語字幕版 or "English subtitles". For SEKIRO: NO DEFEAT at Fushimi Million-za, showtimes and tickets are on the cinema's ticket page (starcat-ticket.com), which labels each showtime as English-subtitled, and its film page says every showing has English subtitles. The film's schedule page notes that under-18s are not admitted to showings ending after 23:00.
- Do Japanese cinemas show anime with English subtitles every day?
- No. Most anime in Japanese cinemas is Japanese audio with no subtitles. English-subtitled screenings are added for a few titles only, at a short list of cinemas chosen by the distributor, and often only at some showtimes — so check the individual showtime, not just the film. As of 3 October 2026 we could confirm only one cinema with English-subtitled anime showings.
- Which anime films open in Japanese cinemas in October 2026?
- Among the films we checked: Attack on Titan Part 1: Crimson Bow and Arrow (劇場版「進撃の巨人」前編〜紅蓮の弓矢〜) opens on 23 October 2026 according to Aeon Cinema's film page (a theatrical re-edit of TV episodes 1–13, 119 minutes, with 4DX showings at Aeon Cinema Theatas Chofu), and SEKIRO: NO DEFEAT keeps adding cinemas on 9, 16, 23 and 30 October. Neither listing mentions English subtitles for these showings (checked 3 October 2026).
