What it is

Tokyo Game Show (TGS), organized by CESA, is one of the world's largest game expos and celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2026 with a historic first: a five-day run, September 17–21, 2026, at Makuhari Messe in Chiba. September 17–18 are Business Days (industry only); September 19–21 are Public Days open to all. Organizers expect around 300,000 visitors across roughly 3,500 booths, with hands-on demos, esports stages, indie showcases, cosplay and merchandise.

For a foreign visitor, TGS is one of the most accessible major Japanese events: it's an exhibition (not a fan-organized event), there's an official English website, and Makuhari is well connected to central Tokyo. Expect long queues for big-title demos.

Ticketing

TGS 2026 will introduce new ticket types, but specific prices were not disclosed at research time. In past years, public-day tickets were sold online in advance via the official site and convenience stores; buy early as same-day availability is limited. Check tgs.cesa.or.jp for the English ticket page when sales open.
