Tokyo Game Show 2026 — Sept 17–21, Makuhari Messe

Tokyo Game Show 2026 closed on Sunday 20 September 2026. The 30th-anniversary show was scheduled to run five days, 17–21 September, but the organisers cancelled the whole of the final day, Monday 21 September, as Typhoon No. 25 approached — "prioritising the safety of visitors, exhibitors and related parties". Across the four days actually held, 257,642 people attended (41,203 on the 17th, 62,889 on the 18th, 79,722 on the 19th, 73,828 on the 20th), with 1,138 companies and organisations from 53 countries and regions exhibiting and 25 official programmes streamed online. Tokyo Game Show 2027 is scheduled for 16–20 September 2027 (Thu–Mon holiday) at Makuhari Messe, announced by CESA in the same closing release (confirmed 22 September 2026).

What it is

Tokyo Game Show (TGS), organized by CESA, is one of the world's largest game expos and celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2026 with a historic first: a five-day run, September 17–21, 2026, at Makuhari Messe in Chiba. September 17–18 are Business Days (industry only); September 19–21 are Public Days open to all. Organizers expect around 300,000 visitors across roughly 3,500 booths, with hands-on demos, esports stages, indie showcases, cosplay and merchandise.

For a foreign visitor, TGS is one of the most accessible major Japanese events: it's an exhibition (not a fan-organized event), there's an official English website, and Makuhari is well connected to central Tokyo. Expect long queues for big-title demos.

Ticketing

TGS 2026 will introduce new ticket types, but specific prices were not disclosed at research time. In past years, public-day tickets were sold online in advance via the official site and convenience stores; buy early as same-day availability is limited.
